Call for nominations for the UNESCO Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science (2015)



UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has announced a call for the nominations for the Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science for 2015. The deadline for the submission of nominations to the State Commission for UNESCO is 15 February 2014.

UNESCO invites all Member States, as well as non-governmental organizations in official partnership, to nominate candidates for this award.

The purpose of the Avicenna Prize is to honor an individual or organization for activities and efforts in the field of ethics in science, which coincides with the priorities of UNESCO.

The award was established in 2003 by the Executive Board of UNESCO at the initiative of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and was named after the physician and philosopher of the 11th century (Avicenna 980-1038). The award is $ 10,000 and a one-week visit to Iran.

Playoffs of the Competition for the Best Technological Innovation

Playoffs of the Competition for the Best Technological Innovation, successfully organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education and Culture, will take place on 12 December 2014 in Istocno Sarajevo. Six teams will participate in the playoffs, which are of great importance to the promotion of the science and technology and the development of the innovation and research activities.

The planned fund for competitors is 35,000 BAM, and the jury, which will have the task to choose the best among the finalists, will consist of the representatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Srpska, Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia, the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Srpska, the University of Istocno Sarajevo and the Council for Science and Technology of the Republic of Srpska.  The playoffs are scheduled for 5 p.m. on the premises of the Cultural Center in Istocno Sarajevo.

Scholarships of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offers scholarships for postdoctoral research work for highly qualified scientists from abroad who have completed doctoral studies before at least four years, as well as for experienced PhDs, with a view to joining the colleagues from Germany in their research.

The criteria for selection of candidates are based on the academic achievement of candidates, and there are no quotas for the state or for the academic field.

Humboldt Foundation does not provide support to the projects, but only to individual scientists, and most of these programs are implemented in the English language.
